TI
Automotive http://www.tiautomotive.com/
Finely-tuned
team ensures smooth operations
As Australia’s
leading supplier of brake and fuel parts to Ford, Holden and Toyota, TI Automotive understands regular staff tune-ups
are paramount to secure the winner’s flag in the extremely competitive
automotive industry.
That’s why they have never taken their
foot off the pedal since engaging CHASE Performance to deliver the
highly-effective Lean
Six Sigma program.
TI Automotive Quality Manager Scott Robinson
said a constant pressure to up-skill staff reflected the nature of the
ever-evolving industry.
“There
is a lot of pressure to meet industry standards, and adapt to any new policies
or procedures. CHASE Performance stood out from other providers because they
customised the course to our business needs, and offer a wealth of experience
in the industry. They were very impressive.”
What
is Lean Six Sigma?
The Lean Six Sigma training program is a strategic quality improvement process
designed to replace wasteful business practices with more efficient processes
guaranteed to improve workplace efficiency, particularly in the areas of safety
or project management.
Six Sigma is a system-wide business management strategy
designed to boost business profitability by:
·
Reducing
waste
·
Improving
quality
·
Increasing
efficiency
·
Boosting
productivity
Ultimately,
staff transform their newfound skills and knowledge into becoming a dynamic
part of the change process.
Results-driven
training
CHASE Performance’s first step was to conduct a thorough
workplace audit across a range of areas to diagnose key problem areas for
management. Scott said the personalised assessment approach was excellent.
“People were
interviewed across the floor. CHASE Performance then compared our standards to
the industry. This resulted in a program focused on areas which needed to be
improved and upskilled.”
He was also impressed by the consultant’s ability to
deliver a well-paced course to employees with diverse skill sets and education.
Staff were actively encouraged to choose relevant work projects that could be
implemented on the shop floor in between sessions.
“The outcomes
of the program have been significant. Our operators are now armed with improved
knowledge and greater responsibility. They are now better able to take on new
projects or changes and make them happen.”

LabSystems http://www.labsystems.com.au/
Regular ongoing
interaction key to improving staff performance
As specialists in creating state-of-the-art
laboratories, LabSystems recognised the benefits of
designing streamlined systems to improve workplace efficiencies.
Management turned to the expertise of CHASE
Performance in September 2010 in order to implement leaner
principles into its business processes.
Before long productivity soared as 25 staff underwent the Lean Six Sigma program that helped them create better ways to design, manufacture and install laboratory and clean room equipment such as fume cupboards, fans and associated equipment, laboratory fit outs and chemical storage facilities and cabinets.
Why choose CHASE Performance?
LabSystems Operations Manager David Mutimer said CHASE Performance’s focus on delivering ongoing training every fortnight ensured new skills were incorporated into the workplace sooner.
He said the actual – rather than theoretical – noticeable improvements to workplace and manufacturing practices made it a real standout from other service providers.
He saw staff training as an investment in his team, many of who had been loyal to the company for more than 20 years. and in addition, recognised the value in ongoing training every fortnight to ensure the new skills were incorporated into staff projects in the workplace between sessions.
“We embarked on this program as part of an
overall plan of continuous improvement in the business. With an ageing workforce,
we felt the need to up-skill and update overall approaches to workplace
management.”
Improvements across the board
· Increasing factory efficiency by 10 per cent
· Redesigning factory layout to streamline operations
· Introducing KPIs to boost staff productivity
· Using latest project management tools and data collection to solve problems
· Significant staff behavioural changes in line with the ‘lean’ principles and techniques
· Empowered staff courtesy of improved skills and knowledge
· Improved staff input into their work practices
· Improved communications between management and staff
· Installing information dashboards (big noticeboards) in key locations recording KPIs, minutes of meetings and workplace and safety practices.
David said his staff had readily embraced many exciting changes that had led to massive improvements in workplace efficiency. He remains committed to rolling out the program to new staff as well as enabling any staff keen to obtain a certificate or diploma.
“Our workplace is now like a pit stop for a
racing car. As well as a new layout, we have changed the management of our
space as well. There is no clutter, everything is in the right place and the
work zones are being upgraded.”

Signcraft
http://www.signcraft.com.au/
“Real world approach to sales training”
As one of Australia’s leading sign-making companies, the
Signcraft Group understands the importance of presenting a professional image
to clients.
That’s why Signcraft chose CHASE Performance to help
improve how staff promote its signage, corporate imaging and re-imaging to
clients predominantly in the construction and architecture sectors.
Signcraft Group National Sales Manager Brian Laker chose CHASE Performance 12 months ago to help his staff adopt a more engaged selling style.
The CHASE Performance Commerce Advanced Selling Skills program focuses on:
Why CHASE Performance?
Brian felt CHASE Performance’s “real world of sales” approach not only set it apart from other providers but had been tailored specifically to Signcraft’s business environment.
“I wanted physical, tangible and measurable
results, not just an academic exercise. The longevity of the training is a key
factor... The consultants take their time to understand the personalities of
the sales team before challenging long-held but unproductive techniques.”
The CHASE Performance Impact
He said team communications had also improved with the program, which he described as running more like a discussion than a lecture.
“The sales staff have all been very positive
about the new challenges and ideas and felt comfortable discussing their
individual weaknesses or struggles.”
He also valued his team’s newfound structured and documented approach to client sales which now focused on improving client relationships by:
· Cold calling to seek new business;
· Setting up presentations to prospective or existing clients;
· Better ongoing client telephone contact;
· Contacting new companies to see if their signage contract has been filled; and,
· Inviting clients on-site to see how Signcraft operate.
Overall, Brian has welcomed the definite improvement in the accountability and quality of work both from a behavioural and procedural standpoint.
“You can’t overestimate the importance of
the right facilitator. Our consultants have been experienced. They understand
the core business. That’s the single big standout for the training and why we
will continue the program.”

Winslow
Constructors http://www.winslow.com.au/
“CHASE Performance builds staff confidence”
Building a better business from the ground up is a key focus for Winslow Constructors, a leading civil construction company specialising in the residential, industrial and commercial infrastructure sectors.
Staff development is a fundamental building block in their ongoing success in recent years with CHASE Performance drawing up the blueprint for improved staff performance.
Why choose CHASE Performance?
Winslow’s Health, Safety and Environment Manager Richard Brown said CHASE Performance was handpicked above other providers for its customised approach that cemented existing skills and also provided the appropriate industry accreditations.
He said the fact the CHASE Performance consultants had experience in the building sector meant they understood the unique needs of the workplace.
“CHASE Performance contextualised their training to fit our business, and we have developed a strong partnership over time.”
The in-built flexibility was an additional selling point with CHASE Performance willing to train Winslow Constructors staff in onsite huts at various building and construction sites.
“The benefits of training have been across
the board and keep growing as more staff undergo the
program.”
CHASE Performance: building strong partners
The monthly face-to-face training covers:
· Certificate III in Civil Construction
· Certificate III in Road Construction and Maintenance,
· Certificate III in Plant Operations, and
· Certificate III in Pipe Laying
Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision is also offered as staff progress through the training and has become a key part of Winslow’s succession planning.
Between sessions, consultants actively encourage employees to apply their knowledge to the worksite as training projects.
“In our industry there is a high rate of illiteracy. Some of the staff were afraid of training and lacked confidence. But the beauty of CHASE Performance is the training is not like a school.”
“This training has really built the guys up.
Having a bit of paper to say you have completed Certificate III has led to a
massive increase in self-esteem. Some employees with poor English are now
taking ESL classes which have really improved their confidence.”
Key benefits of the training include:
· Increased staff confidence courtesy of proper accreditation
· Increased problem solving and decision-making skills
· Better grasp of Occupational Health and Safety policy
· Improved documentation
· Introduction of a KPI database
· Increased and measurable productivity and efficiencies
And the biggest gain for Richard?
“Our people are happy to be working well.”

Case Study 5
Under-Raps http://www.under-wraps.com.au/
“Specialised, individually tailored programs”
A lack of staff cohesiveness at a leading national goods packaging company prompted management to call in CHASE Performance to improve business communications.
Based in Western Australia, Under-Raps have wrapped up a major share of the Australian and New Zealand packaging industry by providing the latest technology in the transport and storage of all types and sizes of goods, equipment, plant and objects. It controls the sole rights of distribution for Intercept Anti-Corrosion materials.
Last year Under-Raps director Greg Owens recognised the structure of his
organisation made it difficult for staff in different divisions to work
together effectively.
He called on the experts at CHASE Performance to help bridge the gaps and form a more united Under-Raps “team” by drawing staff together from accounts, sales and construction/installation divisions into an holistic lean implementation program.
“Bringing all the employees into the one
program gave them an opportunity to better understand the overall delivery of our
products and services.”
CHASE Performance gets a good wrap
CHASE Performance’s solid reputation and their recent opening of a WA branch impressed Greg. He also found the consultancy provided the best follow-up and feedback channels to cater for Under-Rap’s unique business needs.
“CHASE Performance created a specialised,
individually tailored program. The consultants were also able to overcome some
tricky coordinating issues by devising a flexible arrangement. This allowed us
to carry on business as normal without having to suspend urgent jobs due to
program dates.”
Business Outcomes
Results have been significant for Under-Raps in
terms of productivity gains, improved communications as well as:
·
A noticeable improvement in internal working
relationships between divisions
·
Streamlined processes and procedures devised by
division heads
· Improved employee satisfaction and empowerment
· Better accountability of individuals; and,
· Increased staff engagement in growing business.
· More specific improvements in work practices applied through the training include:
· Colour coding of trailers
·
Improved
stock control
·
Better workplace
layout and OH&S policies
·

G4S
“Securing the best possible training”
Staff conflict can easily erupt among stressed colleagues working in pressure cooker environments. None arguably more so than for security staff forced to confront violent situations in prisons and courts.
Leading security group G4S sought CHASE Performance’s expertise to arm staff with premium customer service skills in order to protect clients across a broad range of organisations and industries.
G4S hired CHASE Performance to deliver programs emphasising conflict resolution and strong communications skills to its operational staff:
· Certificate IV in Customer Contact
· Certificate IV in Frontline Management
· Diploma of Management
G4S was so impressed with the success of the programs it has made an ongoing commitment to staff development.
Protecting the future
G4S National Learning and Development Manager Belinda Pritchard said the pitfalls of the industry demanded a high standard of customer care.
“Two years ago we identified a need to
improve this area among operational staff because of the hard environments they
can work in.”
Another arm of CHASE Performance’s training specifically targets supervisors and managers keen to gain national accreditation to bolster their career prospects.
Why choose CHASE Performance?
Having worked with CHASE Performance previously, Belinda has long been impressed with the quality of its programs.
“CHASE Performance offer ready advice about
customising the training to our business environment, and also focuses strongly
on gaining maximum outcomes.”
Success from the top down:
The programs prompted G4S to improve its business processes by streamlining its operational plans, budgets and financial plans. More specifically:
1. Better internal and external staff communications.
2. Improved staff skills managing violent and emotionally charged situations on-site.
3. Improved staff productivity periodically measured by HR against individual contracts.
4. Reduced operating costs for projects such as managing prison transport vehicles.
The future
As the programs continually evolve to meet specific client needs, CHASE Performance is working with Belinda to create a more blended approach that combines online and face-to-face training with a new mentoring program.
